The simple solution was to copy
/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.7/openerp/addons/hr_contract to a new folder and
revising it's code to provide the data fields and view that were needed.

This is a note of thanks to the people whom provided guidance and insight.
Every comment was valuable in teaching me ways to look at OpenERP.
