You haven't missed anything, though your colleague Nicolas got Antony's tweet
about this same question[1].

To clarify Antony's tweet, it is being discussed to embed support for mobile
devices directly into the main web framework (and avoid keeping a separate web
layer just for this).

However this is unlikely to be ready in time for 7.0 (Q4 2012), and might be
launched later in the lifecycle of 7.0 instead, directly via OpenERP Apps. And
of course we'd like to avoid having to maintain two separate modules for 7.0.

So what happens until then? We will probably do minimal maintenance on the 6.1
web_mobile to make it properly compatible with 7.0, but take it out of the
official modules. We're not sure yet about its new home. It could be a
community-managed branch, if anyone is interested?
