I'm sorry, I was again not clear. After installing melt, melt _could_
successfully play the DV. Trying to play the DV from in Openshot still
failed however.
I have changed my xserver settings (diabled DRI and changed
resolution, set for SW mousepointer). At the moment ffplay and melt
both play the DV with no errors reported on the command line.
Openshot is still failing to play the DV, and an MPEG1 transcode of
the same clip. I still see no errors reported on the openshot command
line.
There are still ALSA messages appearing in user.log, syslog and
messages.

Bug description:
Trying to import PAL DV file. When I press play, there is a momentary blue flash in the video display area, then black. The time display in the lower left reads 00:00:00.199 for 1 second, then 00:00:00.200 for one second, then repeats both 4 times (5 times total, over 10 seconds). timer stops at 00:00:00.200
No error messages on command line.
Installed from PPA. Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic, 32bit on via savage km400 chipset.
