Tried that. Uninstall and reinstall with package from sid. Same error message. However, noticed that python-pygoocanevas is listed in the dependencies. It was not requested when I installed the package, and not on my computer. This reinforce my feeling that it is a dependency problem.
when the deb package was built, obviously some dependencies were not flagged as "must-have". If the people who tried happen to have it on their system, it will obviously work, but if you don't and it isn't requested, it crashes.
I'll continue installing things to try and identify other missing dependencies, but pythpn-pygoocanevas is obviously one

downloaded .deb directly from website.
1.1.3 was working fine.
.deb installed without warning

The Openshot.debug seems to indicate that the packages python-mlt and openshot-mlt are missing.
