Re: API version in Grizzly
That's not entirely the case - the API structure has changed rather significantly (mostly made more consistent and unified), so API calls to V2 may or may not match entirely with API calls to V3. We did go to the trouble of writing a very thorough spec, and then checking and updating it as we did the V3 API implementation. You can find that spec at https://github.com/openstack/identity-api/blob/master/openstack-identity-api/src/markdown/identity-api-v3.md
The WADL's that generate the V2 API didn't expose or explicitly set many of the administrative functions in V2, although the data structures returned a very similiar - there's also some additional concepts that are only exposed in V3 (domains, groups) - which may or may not be relevant to what you're trying to do.
tl;dr - don't assume the API translates perfectly forward
