Hi Bruce and welcome to the project :)

If your looking for something to work on, then targeting some bugs in
Rhythmbox or Nautilus from the link Timothy sent would be a good place to
start given your experience with C. Those apps are written in C so you will
have less of a learning curve with those ones than you will with some of
the others. Actually, any app written in GTK, the graphical application
toolkit that most Ubuntu apps are written in, will be up your street.

As Tim said, if you have any questions then please don't hesitate to ask
them here.

are up to.
Not sure how much you know about papercuts but basically we target small
issues (although they can be deceivingly complex) for a selected bunch of
projects each release. You can see the bugs we have targeted for this

Basically as a developer you can pick a bug you like assign it to yourself
and start working away. If you get stuck or have further questions, want
help, etc just reply to the papercut ninjas email list once you have signed
up.

Hello,

I've been an avid Mac user for several years, but have been intrigued by
the growth of the open-source movement and want to contribute! I'm an
experienced scientific-c programmer and would love to debug for the
Ubuntu program. Based on what I've read a good starting place was here.
I thought I'd say hello and ask for any general information for new
contributors.
