RaiMan proposed the following answer:
Since images are compared pixel by pixel, screen resolution as such does
not matter, as long as the same image on different screen resolutions is
the same pixel by pixel.

It will no longer work, if a different resolution results in some
modification of the image when displayed on the screen (e.g.
interpolation with lower resolutions to smooth borders).
