I use Jython/unittest with my own XML test runner for reporting. There
are however test runners publicly available for aggregating data from
unittest for reporting (poke around the intertubes, you'll find many).

In regards to your special character issue (@) are you using Java or
Jython? Again I use Jython and am entering email addresses all the time
using the @ character with type() and have no problems.
