Yes, you're on the problem !
In fact, the acpi=ht on kernel at boot isn't to get the nvidia card  
working at all !
It is to get linux not uninitializing switch at next shutdown/reboot.  
I mean you'll need to have the switch on when you use acpi=ht. It  
won't make the startup working.
But it will force acpi not to uninitialize the switch at  
shutdown/reboot so that you can reboot on nvidia at next startup.
