Hi,

I would like to acknowledge that Eva and Matze did a great job with the
sony-laptop module, which
is a good solution for the only-intel or only-nvidia options.

I remember Matze mentioning in previous emails that he was investigating
some other options for communicating with the nvidia card. I've recently
started compiling a list of laptop models that have hybrid graphics cards,
with ATI PowerXpress or Nvidia SLI HybridGraphics capabilities:

As you can see, there are other DSDT tables there for hybrid nvidia laptops.
Maybe this information is relevant to compare against the vaio z DSDT table.

We've exchanged emails in this mailing list (see archives) with the
linux-acpi developer Matthew Garrett. Here are are some of his comments:

1) Nvidia hybrid machines. These have been worked out. I sent a driver
to the linux-acpi mailing list that will disable whichever chip is not
in use. Runtime switching is easy from a technology point of view, but
currently impossible from the point of view of POSTing the nvidia gpu or
getting X to handle switchover.

He also mentioned that some of the work in the nouveau drivers could have a
positive impact in being able to hot-switching the nvidia card on and off.
But this work is still not complete.

So in an optimistic mood I can say that I think there's been a lot of work
done and there are good prospects for more!
