Re: intel/nvidia config on arch linux

Hi,

as an alternative to the kernel parameter, you could try modifying the DSDT table which is used by it. Just look for the identity of the computer, you should find "Windows XP Sp1" and other things of that sort in your dsdt file. Then compile it and configure your kernel to use an external at-boot-time-loaded dsdt.

I did it before knowing about the acpi_osi parameter.
Look over there for more information :

Anyway, you'd better use the acpi_osi since far more portable.

Hope that can help

Hey David,

I've just installed arch linux on mine, and it seems the arch initramfs doesn't play well with spaces. That means passing acpi_osi="!Windows 2006" results in a kernel panic when initramfs starts loading. The problem is the space between Windows and 2006. I've been unable to escape it at all. Other distros don't seem to have this problem. For now, I boot once while pacing acpi_osi, reach the kernel panic, then reboot without it. This gets the 'speed' light on, and allows the nvidia card to work correctly. Have you been able to avoid this at all?

As for libgl conflicts, I've had none, but then again I only use speed mode, and haven't bothered with trying to get swapping yet. One thing at a time =)

Thanks,
Jarek

Hi David,

essentially, you can use the guide at http://www.welfenlab.de/fileadmin/download/Installation-sony-vaio.pdf

The setup on Arch should not be that different. Please correct me if my assumption is wrong.

Cheers,
Philipp

Hello, can any of you arch linux users explain how you got the nvidia/intel cards working? Right now I have eva's module loaded and I'm using the intel card but when I try to load the nvidia card is says there is a conflict with libgl. Would some kind arch user put together a little walkthrough on how he/she got the switching to work? What files to rename, etc. Thank you!
