Thanks. I just got the nvidia card working with the kernels etc. from Adam.
I have not altered my BIOS, not sure if I dare do it. Perhaps it's not 
so hard but I still haven't
done any investigation on how to do it.

When I try to start with intel card I can get the text command login but 
when I run /etc/rc.local.moved
or actually just manually do: "modprobe i915 modeset=1" the laptop 
display goes black and the external display is
activated.

Perhaps I need a special xorg.conf file or ?
According to this page

previous
z models has problems with displays EDID data. Perhaps this could be the 
issue here?

Anyway if I can help making this work I am prepared to do it.
