Re: experience with Adam's howto
Firstly for anyone who is about to go through what Justin has:
1) The README in my files directory is in no way meant to be a HOWTO... it is
more like a set of notes and you really need to know a little more than for
the average HOWTO! The reason for this is that there simply isn't a way to get
the Intel card working that I know of on the latest Arrandale based Z's using
grub2 etc. other than using my kernel, and it seemed that nobody was making
any progress, so I had a go. HOWEVER, that kernel is very much a hack and also
work in progress, the hope being that at some point I ( or someone else ) can
find the real reasons why the card doesn't work with the stock kernels.
2) At the moment, unless you have the 1920x1080 panel, there is no real point
downloading the 2.6.35 based kernel unless you intend to continue to try to
work on it ( in which case you'll need to get the 2.6.35-rc6 sources and my
patch. ) Currently, I've not found out how to make the 1600x900 panel work.
the NVidia card works with the stock kernels fine, as long as you boot an old
kernel in speed mode first. I've provided an old kernel with a reboot hacked
in to the pci setup code for convenience ( it reboots as quickly as possible )
but that's it.
The reason why the NVidia kernel did not build would probably be because
I didn't keep the headers deb updated. I've just moved the test kernels out of
the test directory and in to the main one, and deleted the old ones, so that
should no longer be a problem.
Finally, I don't have much time at all to work on this, and it is quite
possible that progress is being made elsewhere because I can't keep track of
everything!
Adam.
