Not sure what really does the intel brightness keys work, but I can
confirm is not directly related to the kernel used.
I had such keys not working on ubuntu lucid with a 2.6.35 kernel
compiled with adam's patches, when I upgraded to ubuntu maverick
(booted using the *same identical kernel*) keys started to work... I
wasn't able to track which package really did the magic, a quick check
to the scripts in /etc/acpi dir showed no difference.
