ACPI events have changed somehow with Maverick (it used to work with
Lucid). Keys still work but are not linked to anything (try checking
that with 'acpi_listen'). Also, brightness setting itself works fine,
and I just added a brightness control applet to the panel to control it
(I am just lazy to add appropriate ACPI events).
FWIW, I've got a Z790 so it should be roughly the same deal.
Others have described how to best set up ACPI events on this list in the
past, I suggest you search the archives.
[Dunno about nvidia though, never used it]
Cheers,
Danilo
