Are you sure that the correct version of sony-laptop module is loaded?
The name of this module is the same as the name of standart linux
module for sony laptops, shipped with many linux distributions.

To do this, show us find /lib/modules/`uname -r`/ -name sony-laptop.ko
and see, do you have a new version of module in update/ directory.
