Hi, it seems my device had a preloaded firmware since i've gotten it
work with GobiSerial and wvdial.

I have managed to get an usb0 interface with GobiNet, but no success
with ModemManager/NetworkManager.

Could you expand upon how you got it to work with NetworkManager? Mine
just finds it as an ethernet device with "cable unplugged" as status.

I've tried using the daily trunk builds ppa for NM, but that did not help.
