Concerning sound not working in Ubuntu Precise, I also have sound issues 
in 12.04 with kernel 3.2. There is no sound coming out of my internal 
speakers. It does work with accompanying headphones.

Internal microphone, however, does work now! It didn't before.

So, anyone else having this sound issue with Ubuntu 12.04, kernel 3.2?
