Re: Link to How-to does not work. Any Mirrors?

Hi Glenn,

Thank you for your response! I was wondering, do you have the same device as
I have? If so, did you installed the sony vaio modules? If so, could you
perhaps help me installing those on my system as well?

I have no clue on how to get this to work, even with the links/files I got
earlier..

Many thanks in advance!

Kind regards,

Roberto Gardenier

Hello Roberto,

To have Ubuntu detect the PCI hotplug events when you connect the external
dock, you should ensure the kernel acpiphp module is loaded before
connecting/disconnecting the dock. The simplest approach is to add the
following line to /etc/modules:

         acpiphp

That will ensure the module is loaded at system boot time. This works fine
for me - most of the time. On some kernel variants I have seen occasional
crashes when connecting/disconnecting the dock.

I got this very useful tip from this mailing list a few months ago :-).

Cheers,
Glenn.

Hello Sohrab,

Thank you for your kind assistence.

I have the following information for you:

Bios: Sony - 20120209 - InsydeH2O Version
HuronRiver.3.61.05.2051R0172H5

Model: Sony Vaio VPC-Z21L9E

Dual boot: Yes, with windows 7. This is temporarily until i have a complete
working Linux installed. When i got a Linux OS installed which is able to
have multiple screens (3monitors) then i will remove my windows installation
as well and make it a single boot.

Ubuntu version: 12.04 LTS

I've installed Ubuntu from USB, nothing special. I noticed one thing, that
with the Ubuntu live boot, my external docking station was working properly.
Now it doenst recognize it at all.

Once again, thanks for your help.

Kind regards,

Roberto

Hello Robert,

I'll be glad to help you. Even though I'm no expert I've done it a couple of
times. Please give me some more information about your system. Whats your
exact laptop model, which version bios do you have installed, what version
of Ubuntu do you have installed, is your system dual boot or just Ubuntu?
I'm away for most of today but will help as much as I can when I get back.

Hello,

I've looked at the article and find it very confusing. Ive tried running the
script but it gives me a warning "kernel is to old for this script".

I tried installing the kernel as provided on launchpad, but "make" gives me
an error as well.

I hope you, or someone else, could give me a set of instructions on how to
install this thing.

Just for the record, i have a vaio z21 model.

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Roberto

Hello,

Im a proud owner of a Sony Vaio Z21 and i would like to install the
sony-vaio modules. Since this is my first time trying so i would like to
follow the how-to located on
http://global-social.net/tiki-view_blog.php?blogId=3.

Only problem is, this page is currently unavailable. Are there any mirrors
or other pages where i could read instructions on how to install these
modules?
