Adam,

    I tried the 3.12 kernel. The system booted ok, but got a kernel 
oops seconds after logging in to gnome, the system hung soon after that. 
With graphics set to performance (Nvidia) the system runs fine. The 
speakers are indeed working on this new kernel.
