Re: bug5

Tord Jansson,

Thank you for your bug report. First of all, I would like to personally ask
for bug reports to be submitted to launchpad. It is much easier for me to
respond to those, as well as organize the solutions for them.

Not allowing pdf is actually a technical restriction. The images submitted
to the primary "image" field are all resized to two thumbnails, which are
used in the grid "get materials" view and the blocks at the right on the
front page. Drupal's image manipulation program (imagemagick, or gdi) cannot
do such manipulations to my knowledge with pdf.

It would be nice to be able to allow users to submit the format of their
choosing, but the thumbnails are too valuable to be removed, in my opinion.

However, I do not see why pdf shouldn't be allowed in the section currently
called "huge image"

Actually, converting that into a "file" rather than a "image" field would
elminate another bug that sends the entire huge image then resizes it in the
browser.

I'm not sure that I know how to convert the field without destroying data. I
may have to manually download and re-upload the "huge images" and rename the
field to something more accurate.
