Re: More on Wallpaper/Background problem:RE: The latest ISO

Hi Jack,
I replicated your tests and found the same results.
I am working on changing the code a bit to check things, and remove that line from pcmanfm.conf if it exists. I have had to change things to check for the existence of both files, and get the value of the line, to see if it exists.

This was most helpful thank you for taking time to do this! I hope to have a fix soon to test.

Hi Israel,

Some more experiments with changing wallpapers leads me to the following observations now:

1) If I change background initially with 'Desktop Preferences' all seems to work okay. 2) I note that the [Desktop] section of the original starting 'pcmanfm.conf' is removed and a new file 'desktop-items-0.conf' is created pointing to the changed wallpaper/background.

3) If I change background initially with 'Desktop Settings' we get the problem I originally found where the new wallpaper is lost each time I went to 'Desktop Settings'. 4) After doing an initial change with 'Desktop Settings' I note that a new file 'desktop-items-0.conf' is created pointing to the changed wallpaper/background. 5) BUT the [Desktop] section is also left remaining in the 'pcmanfm.conf' file thus causing a conflict with the info. in 'desktop-items-0.conf'. In fact 'pcmanfm.conf' contains the original /usr/share/backgrounds/default.jpg and the new wallpaper is referenced in 'desktop-items-0.conf'.

6) When I edited out the offending [Desktop] section from 'pcmanfm.conf' all seems to work as expected. 7) So to clarify, the case that does not work properly is starting off changing background with 'Desktop Settings' as it does not seem to perform the same steps as if starting off with using 'Desktop Preferences'.

Hope this helps.
JackT.

Hi Isreal,

I've been doing some experimenting on the changing wallpapers problem.

I've noticed that if I do a change via 'Desktop Preferences' that it seems to work okay. Also noticed that the 'Desktop' section of 'pcmanfm.conf' gets removed and an updated 'Desktop' section gets added to 'desktop-items-0.conf'.

More later today as I find things of interest that may help uncover the problem.

Cheers,
JackT.

PS: As we're getting close to an RC what is the state of the manuals?

Hi Israel,

Interesting observation; I'm glad(?) you bumped into the problem as well. Thanks for the hint.

Cheers,
JackT.

PS: I also checked Live session 'obi-installer' options 'h' and 'c' perform correctly now.

Hi Jack,
I think the issue is possibly
~/.config/pcmanfm/default/pcmanfm.conf
I had the problem and here is the issue
root root 406 Apr 4 13:38 pcmanfm.conf

This should be and easy fix.
That said, I am not sure where it is getting owned by root.

If you have the issue again, check to see this file's ownership.

    Hi israel,

This is my own personal tester's nightmare. It's decided to work
as it should now. It's like after about 2 reboots it seems to
retain the changed background wallpaper as it should.

What can I say? There must be an explanation but I guess it's a
    low priority mystery to solve?

    Cheers,
    JackT.
