Re: Testing: RE: Fixed menu

Hi Nio,
It will only limit the amount running if you run the command through it.
This is what I use in the Keyboard shortcuts

    <Key mask="CS" key="Escape">exec:torios-runchecker xterm htop</Key>
    <Key mask="A4" key="Escape">exec:torios-runchecker xterm htop</Key>
    <Key mask="CA" key="Delete">exec:torios-runchecker xterm htop</Key>
    <Key mask="C" key="Escape">exec:torios-runchecker xterm htop</Key>

This way you can press those key combos MANY times, and get one instance, instead of a frustrating number of xterm htop windows You can open an xterm window and still run the keyboard shortcut to display a separate xterm htop window. the pgrep option matches the entire command line arguments exactly.
So you can open many many terminal windows, unless you run

torios-runchecker xterm &

Multiple times. You will only get one xterm window.
This doesn't limit people at all, you can still open htop from the menu as many times as you want, and fill your screen with htop terminal windows.
You simply cannot open a bunch using the keyboard shortcut.
The screen shot program will also only open one at a time, regardless of how you open it.

Basically I found that I would accidentally open the calculator program many times, or that the screen shot program would open many times, etc..
from keyboard shortcuts and I wanted to limit it.
I think if someone does want multiple htop windows they can remove the torios-runchecker bit from the keyboard shortcuts

OR modify the screenie code to allow multiple windows if they want.
It is simple bash script so it is easy to hack.

Hi Israel,

I'm looking forward to the next iso file.

Most of what you write sounds good, but what about the last fix:

Will it be impossible to launch more than one instance of a program, for example only one instance of xterm? Often I want to run more than one terminal window. I guess it can be worked around with sakura (to open another tab or window), but with xterm in the live session?

Best regards
Nio

Ok, this is not great news.
However, I think (and hope) I will have this fully fixed.
I finally found the issues.
The menu-method was not being installed properly.

I also made a vital fix to the perl app menu which will properly quote &,<,>

have also made some really super cool fixes to the jwmrc file, and
added a small program.

here is the bug:
press Ctrl+Alt+Delete
Your computer is slow so nothing happens instantly.
press it multiple time in a row.
All the sudden you have tons of xterm windows with htop.

So I wrote a program that basically runs
pgrep -fx $@
to see if you are already running whatever
If you are running it, it echos out that you are running it and exits.

So if the menu works (finally) this will be an even better release

Cancel/Ignore that earlier correction: I rebooted Installed system and
'Places' has nothing in it before doing a 'Reload Desktop'.

Apologies,

Correction: the Places menu is populated okay on an Installed system
before a 'Reload Desktop' is performed to populate the Apps menu items.

Hi Israel,

Just to add to what Nio has found: the 'Places' menu reveals no items
(Live and Installed) until 'Reload Desktop' is performed.

Cheers,
JackT.
