Kernel Talk

Hi Nio, Phill and everyone :)

Since we have nothing serious going on here, I thought to start this discussion which should be helpful for ToriOS at the end of the day :)

So, let's see ... I'm a bit confused of what we do have. By 'we', I mean the community or the group of people who are interested in 'Old Hardware' and that applies to Lubuntu, ToriOS, etc.

Not sure if everyone is aware of this or not but there you go:

Phill and Nio, both were and still very keen to work on finding a solution for old machines that are no longer supported with newer released of Ubuntu and eventually Lubuntu, Xubuntu, etc.

Nio was working hard on the Non-PAE part.
Phill was working on new community re-spin for Lubuntu.
We're no different here as ToriOS community as we have the same target - support old machines.

I'm trying to understand more about this .. I'm lost because of so many emails have been sent and I'm not sure what is going on.

So, how many Kernels do we have here?

Will 14.04 default Kernel support the Non-PAE machines by default?
What is the difference then between that and the Kernel that Phill and Bodhi Zazen were/are working on? How all that could help ToriOS so that we don't really have to re-invent the wheel?

There are 3 different paths/directions and at the end, all these meet on one point (support for old machines) but still these paths are a bit different so:

1- We need to understand more about these 3 paths.
2- We might have mutual collaboration to reduce time and effort
3- We, as ToriOS Community now need to understand how different we could be and what we could offer?

Sorry if my words seem crazy or unclear ... I couldn't sleep well with all what is going on recently with my real life so forgive me if I'm creating more confusion here while trying to understand what is going on?!

I asked for a meeting with Phill and Nio. Sorry for not catching up with you, guys.

Do you prefer a Google Hangout Meeting? or an IRC one? Phill, I know your answer already but in both cases, I want the meeting to be recorded. Yes, I know how to do that on both platform (Google and IRC) - I just need to know which one you prefer?

Also, if anyone would like to join us, that is good too :)

We need to re-think and re-consider our options because I want to save time and effort. If there is something useful of what Phill and Nio and others have done so far, I see no reason why we don't use that as well :)

Saving time, energy and effort is a target for any project in the world.

Thank you!
