The 14.04 32-bit kernel is a PAE kernel. There is a built-in check for
the boot option 'forcepae', which makes it possible to use with [almost
all] Pentium M and Celeron M CPUs. But it will not work with pre-Pentium
II and other CPUs without PAE capability.

This is a '14.04' non-pae kernel, that can work with CPUs without PAE
capability.

What is the third path? Do you mean continuing to build the re-spin on
12.04 LTS?

I prefer a written chat. I'm not used to IRC, but it can work for me. I
would be more convenient with a google (written) chat or maybe skype-chat.
