Actually this turned out to be wrong.
Stretch also supports both PAE and non PAE.  They dropped support for
i586 so some of the older processor features do not work anymore, but
most of those features are in processors that are extremely old

Yes... this is true.  Debian Stretch is the way forward for us!

I have built a few 64bit images in the past, however I want to get the
current Debian Stretch up-to-par.  It is pretty good so far, however
there is a problem setting the locale in the newer version of OBI, since
we are not using dpkg, but instead setting it in a more cross linux
distro way.
