Message #34498
[Bug 1393603] [NEW] No acceptable non compositing desktop anymore
Public bug reported:
Since 12.04 (I guess) there is no usable full fledged desktop without
compositing anymore.
Despite providing several benefits, compositing desktops introduce some
small lag to almost any display operation, that some people (including
me) find annoying. This is an effect currently experienced on any
compositing system (including Windows and Mac OS), which gives a kind of
slight honey feel to every mouse or keyboard input.
However, with gnome-fallback gone (or replaced by classic mode building
on top of gnome-shell) there is no full featured gnome like environment
without compositing anymore.
lxde and xfce can be used of course, but the are not in the best shape
for Ubuntu, for example showing several small caveats at desktop
configuration, eg. multi monitor setups and such.
Ubuntu should provide a featured and lag free experience for those who
do power work with.
** Affects: ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
