Message #44582
[Bug 1406177] [NEW] [20ANCTO1WW, Realtek ALC3232, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all (speakers or headphones)
Public bug reported:
justin@j-ll-len:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 14.10
Release: 14.10
Expected:
Sounds playback works out of the box on 14.10.
What happens:
Sound does not work out of the box on 14.10.
Detailed report:
After struggling and giving up on 14.04 on a Lenovo T440p (random
complete lock-ups that wouldn't even respond to magic sysrq keys) I
attempted 14.10 and it appears to work fine. No crashes, nvidia drivers
install, all is well with the latest 2.28 BIOS version. This machine
apparently has some issues with particular BIOS versions > 1.14
(https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/246834).
No matter what sounds settings I fiddle (via the GUI sound settings or
alsamixer from the terminal) I cannot get it to play the test sounds or
sounds in an application (Chrome, etc). The card is not muted, and it is
detected in sound settings. The machine came with Windows, but I did not
test sound before installing Ubuntu. I will test that shortly and update
the bug with those results (to help determine if it might be a hardware
failure). Hopefully the bug has attached relevant log output from the
command I ran "ubuntu-bug -s audio". But I'll aso attach the output of
alsa-info.sh.
