Re: Example - existing radio advert - Linux

I asked (helios) Did you get any legal or other grief from explicitly mentioning
'Microsoft'?
The answer:

'No, we even advertised on a heavily MS-used program. We were purposely
in-your-face to try to elicit a response.
Of course, when you are telling the truth, it's hard for them to say much.'

The voice is real afaik, and I have an email address to try if needed. I happen to really like the style and also the voice, although as I have said, not necessarily the content, and I think the contention can be a distraction, I think negative advertising can easily reflect badly on us. I think the reader is a professional voice over reader and wanted to remain anonymous - probably so he could continue getting work (!)

Audio adverts have an advantage in that the content can easily be defined, and if facilities exist, it is relatively quick to produce.

Well in the UK we are subjected to having Apple compare themselves to MS in
every single way but I do not think that they use the term Microsoft
specifically. This might be a direct route if we compare, to imply a
competitor but not name them directly. However ASDA in the UK do name and
compare against Tesco in their ads so it's an odd thing.

The reader may not be available...that voice is heavily artificial, and I
suspect it's owner is nothing more then computer code. (If that is a real

Preferred content for UK: For GOD'S SAKE DON'T USE A NON-NATIVE SPEAKER!
Known little bug; if your going to advertise to me, and not do it in my
country's wonderful accents, you deserve to HANG...or so, that's what many
folks tell me...

We could possibly also see a stronger success ratio without mentioning MS;
people disgruntled with their computer would be more interested in Ubuntu
then those who suffer just a general annoyance with it.

Also, it's questionable if we can get away with using MS in an ad at all in
the UK. It IS trademarked, after all...
