Ubuntu Bug Control Application

Hello bug control team,

I'm glad to apply to the bugcontrol team and give some time to make
Ubuntu better. I've already been a member of this team nearly 1 year
ago but had to step down. I'm actively back to triaging since
mi-november.

1) Do you promise to be polite to bug reporters even if they are rude
to you or Ubuntu? Have you signed the Ubuntu Code of Conduct?
I promise to be polite to bug reporters even if they are rude to me or
Ubuntu. I have signed the Ubuntu Code of Conduct.

2) Have you read Bugs/HowToTriage, Bugs/Assignment, Bugs/Status and
Bugs/Importance? Do you have any questions about that documentation?
I have read Bugs/HowToTriage, Bugs/Assignment and Bugs/Importance and
I don't have any questions.

3) What sensitive data should you look for in a private Apport crash
report bug before making it public? See Bugs/HowToTriage for more
information.
In private Apport crash report, I should look for sensitive data like
passwords, various kind of keys, private information like phone
numbers, bank accounts, personal informations, ...

4) Is there a particular package or group of packages that you are
interested in helping out with?
I'm focusing on update/upgrade/installation issues: mainly reports
with apport-package tag and update-manager issues.
This drives me to work on packages with lot of installation reports
like grub, grub2, update-manager, linux, ...
I've written a wiki page (
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingInstallationIssues ) which summarize
the most common installation/update failures and workarounds.
To efficiently process those reports, I created some tools to scan
buglist and report's attachments. I would like to improve apport in
this area to improve bug reporting, user experience and reduce some
repetitive and useless triaging work.

5) Please list five or more bugs which you have triaged. These bugs
should demonstrate your understanding of the triage process and how to
properly handle bugs. If there is a bug in your list that does not
have an importance indicate what importance you would give it after
becoming a member of Ubuntu Bug Control. Please use urls in your list
of bugs.

5.1. This first bug report is not a single report but a work on a package.
ttf-mscorefonts-installer: The top issue tagged apport-package during
Karmic release.
I've cleaned up most of ttf-mscorefonts-installer issues, wrote a
detailed analysis of the problems with this package (
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/JeanBaptisteLallement/AnalysisMsttcorefontsIssues
), and provided a patch to fix it. The patch has been forwarded
upstream.
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/msttcorefonts/+bug/464422
(critical)
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/msttcorefonts/+bug/431217
(critical)
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/msttcorefonts/+bug/274421
(medium)
( btw, if anyone knows how to reach the debian maintainer, please ping him )

5.2. stone : stone failed to install : incorrect use of command
substitution in postinst
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/stone/+bug/495539
Importance : High - Uninstallable package
Actions:
Reported upstream
Provide a patch
Patch applied upstream and in Ubuntu

5.3. Postgis : package postgis can't be purged if postgresql is not
installed due to missing directory
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/postgis/+bug/392143
Importance : Low (Easily worked around and affects only full removal
of the package under certain conditions)
Actions:
Confirm, change title & improve description
Provide patch for lucid and karmic and fix FTBFS
Upstream report and patch. Fixed upstream

5.4. grub2 : package linux-image failed to install : post-installation
script returned error exit status 137. /usr/sbin/update-grub killed
with SIGKILL
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/504173
Importance : Medium ( grub2 installation is killed by the kernel but
few duplicates)
Actions:
follow up with the user and report upstream.

5.5. texinfo: Texlive2008 install-info conflicts with system's version
of install-info
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/texinfo/+bug/295542
Importance : Low (Not an issue with Ubuntu but a conflict with a
common external package TexLive. Most TexLive users are experiencing
it and reporting it to Ubuntu)
Actions:
Follow up, reproduce and update description.

I would be very happy to join the team and use my background and
experience to help to improve Ubuntu.

Sincerely,

--
