As for the mount problems (must be root to use mount) you have to
actually go in and create a folder in the mount folder as root, change
the permissions of the folder to everyone, and then manually mount the
drive into that folder (as root). This causes problems later, as you
can't get the drive to unmount from the main menu, and the icon will
stay there (even if the drive is removed) until a reboot.
