[Question #48489]: custom kernel updates question / problem for Adam

New question #48489 on Ubuntu Eee:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu-eee/+question/48489

Adam, I recently installed Adeona (a open source laptop tracking program
out of the University of Washington) on my eeepc 900 16G. Since the
linux version of this program had to be extracted and complied from
source, I also had to install build-essential. Further, they also required
that libssl-dev be installed as well. The problem is that also brought
along for the ride when I installed these were linux-libc-dev and
linux-headers-2.6.24-21 which causes the update manager to
prompt me to install the latest ubuntu generic kernel package
(which I unchecked since naturally ubuntu-eee uses your
custom kernel. I tried deleting these two files in synaptic, but
it indicates that build-essential will also consequently be deleted.

>From your web site I tried the recommended

sudo apt-get remove linux-generic linux-image-generic linux-headers-generic linux-restricted-modules-generic

so as not to receive ubuntu generic linux kernel updates but it indicated that none of these
were present and installed.
Suggestions, comments, and recommendations would be much appreciated.

Also, Adam, thanks so much for all of your work on the eeepc ubuntu custom kernel (and
thanks Jon for ubuntu-eee.)
