Sorry it did not yet work for you.  However, you really need to 
transmit this to the eeepc kernel package maintainer, 
Adam McDaniel.  He used to regularly check this 
message board but apparently has not for quite some time.

which is the ubuntu, kubuntu, and xubuntu subsection of the linux
section of the eeeuser forums.

Adam really needs to read your response because he wants to fix
his custom kernel package to work flawlessly with each ubuntu eeepc
install.
