Re: (no subject)
Samuel
I agree that its a long file. The intention was to pick out the words that come out often in most applications and translate those. If we just start translating without agreeing on the common words/phrases, we will lose consistency.
While you look for the important phrases in tuxpaint, they can be added to that list if not already there and we can then update that list slowly. Clearly not everything will have an equivalent Bemba word. Like file, it never existed in Bemba and I think still does not. Like you indicated, in that case we may have to say "Isuleni File" for Open; "Pangeni File ipya" for 'New File', etc
Thanks
Anthony

I think it's not bad, but for my opinion too long in the beginning.
Why not start with TuxPaint, the pot File for it one finds under [2] -
Help Translating TuxPaint. Download the pot file, open it in PoEdit and
start editing.
I can look at it tomorrow and write out the most important phrases, like
"Open Document", where we already need to find a word for Document, how
ever we will translate this. I'm still wondering if the german word for
'file' (Datei) had any meaning before the computer. I think it was
created afterwards. Lets get creative. :D, or we just use file isuleni
(would this be correct).
Ok, I'll look for some important words tomorrow, otherwise we have to
start with a list of 1800 words in the beginning already. Quite
demotivating until you really see progress. :)
Sleep well, sendamo bwino (?)
