In fact it's not true that running from Live CD/usb is discouraged
(except if you do it on a virtual machine).
Obviously the best would be testing an installed system, but on the
other hand in a live environment you can find a lot of hardware
related bugs as well. :-)
Testing using a live CD/USB is rather encouraged because it's simpler
and can it waste less time if you don't have it. ;-)
