Hi everyone! (first post!)

I've been using Jaunty since Alpha 3, so I've known about the
improvements for a while, but they're still awesome!

The boot time decrease for my computer -- from 26 sec on Intrepid to 15
sec on Jaunty ext3 to 13 sec on Jaunty ext4 (on a test install I did; I
use ext3 now) is impressive. During normal use, the system doesn't seem
any faster than Intrepid, but the bootup improvements are still nice.

My Realtek 8187 wireless card now works without disconnecting randomly.
The free-software ATI driver works much better with my Radeon HD3450
graphics card than Intrepid did (though it doesn't have 3D acceleration
yet). After a very rocky start in the alphas, PulseAudio is now working
fine for me.

The updated versions of the software I use are great, too. wicd
(alternative to network-manager) is in the official repositories now, so
I don't need to get that from a PPA; and gnome-do now has Docky (a
dock-like theme that's more intuitive for me than the traditional
Quicksilver-like layout :). I'm also happy with OpenOffice.org 3, which
seems to be more compatible with Microsoft Office. I made a presentation
a week or two ago that actually looked the same in Impress and
PowerPoint; first time that's ever happened!

I've done a few Intrepid to Jaunty upgrades and they've all gone fine,
but others have had problems, so backing up your data before upgrading
is a smart idea.

Jorge: I generally find that sleeping in until ungodly times in the
early afternoon fixes that ;)

Maia: I'd like to make this group more active. The leaders of similar
Ubuntu groups (Ubuntu Women comes to mind) might be able to offer advice
on how to increase participation while avoiding attacks from problematic
types (which unfortunately includes many on IRC, for example). I
recognize that some members are (very understandably) concerned with
discretion for personal or professional reasons, though, which adds
nuance to this issue :(
