[Bug 546289] Re: (Inconsistent) use of apt-get and aptitude
I just checked the Writing Guide on the wiki, turns out they state
"Installing software - When documenting how to install software, try to avoid recommending a particular package manager (such as apt-get) - instead, simply use an apt link to allow the user to click on the link to install the relevant package."
But this is ofcourse not possible in the manual...
The official Server Guide (https://help.ubuntu.com/9.10/serverguide/C)
does use apt-get only (although it mentions aptitude).
I'd like to know what the manual teams considerations were for aptitude.

Status in Ubuntu Manual: New
Bug description:
On page 143, the method of package management 'apt-get' is used, while the package management section starting from page 127 is using aptitude.
There was a discussion in the wiki team which to use and they came to the rule: use apt-get. It would be a very strange move for the manual to use aptitude instead.
I know this is a controversial subject, but I think that for the sake of consistency between manual and wiki, the manual must use apt-get.
