Votes LTS/all versions

The majority of our active members prefer to publish LTS only:
Mehmet Ergun
Thomas Corwin
Jeff Flaker
Hannie Dumoleyn
Sylvie Gallet
Patrick Dickey
Mehmet Kani (preferred All versions, but changed his mind)
Kevin Godby (Lets other team members decide. Concern: maybe we have to recruit an entirely new team every two years)

Active members who have not yet sent in their votes are:
Michel Memeteau
Cliff Barnes
Sneha Gopinath
Sayantan Das

We may now conclude that our goal is to publish LTS versions only. This means that we have to change our workflow. We can start by deciding whether to publish Trusty 2nd edition (SE). Since we had a lack of contributors for this version, there were several bugs reported that need to be (or are already) fixed. If there are many important bugs, see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-manual, there is a reason to publish a SE, otherwise we could decide to fix bugs so they will not appear in the next LTS version we plan to publish.
Kevin wrote the following:

I can make time to publish it if we want a second edition. If we are going that route, we should decide soon, though, so we can create a new bzr branch for it. Then Mehmet's bug fixes can live in that branch instead of the current trusty branch. As it stands now, I'll have to back out his changes to trusty so they don't interfere with the translations we're publishing.

Next, I will have a look at our shared spreadsheet. I will create a new one where we can keep track of what tasks need to be done between LTS versions and who will be doing what.

It will become more important to keep track of "What's new" between LTS versions. I invite all of you to post interesting reading stuff on "What's new" to our mailing list. Some examples:
http://mhall119.com/2014/10/unity-8-desktop/
http://askubuntu.com/questions/447891/how-to-install-unity-8

To our new members I want to point out that, after having installed TexLive and checked if you have all packages installed (see our website for instructions), you have to install cc-icons manually like this:

The CC Icons font isn't packaged in Ubuntu. You can download the font file from <http://mirrors.creativecommons.org/presskit/cc-icons.ttf <http://mirrors.creativecommons.org/presskit/cc-icons.ttf>>. Copy that font to your ~/.fonts/ directory, then run "fc-cache ~/.fonts". Then you can rerun make.

See https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu-manual/+question/249726

If you encounter problems, please send your questions to our mailing list. Don't be afraid of asking questions that seem trivial or stupid to you. The more questions we get, the better we can adjust our instructions. And it also means that our team, including newcomers, is alive ;)
