Re: Let's go for it!

Hello Eric,
Erroneously, I had sent the link for the raring spreadsheet, instead of the one for Xenial. Sam Klein notified me and I have sent a correction to the list. The Xenial sheet can be found here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/10Nl3Yue69IM2EflSdyeHgADET49RZRmgfDVoxHutQIk/edit#gid=2094840941

I have decided to join authors and editors in one group. The reason for this is that most of the chapters and sections have been written already and we do not have enough contributors to have an author and an editor for each chapter. We want authors/editors to check if the contents of "their" chapters/sections is still correct for Xenial. In many cases it is, but sometimes the text needs to be slightly changed. I am not sure if this version, 16.04, will have major changes compared to the previous LTS version. I understand that 16.04 will not have Unity 8 as default yet.

If you do not have Ubuntu (GUI) installed, perhaps you could download the manual and read the chapter the contents of which you would like to check. If it needs rewriting, you could ask via our list if someone else is willing to do that.

And yes, if a chapter already has a name, you can add yours as well.

If you have more questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Cheers,
Hannie

Hi Hannie,
I'm looking at this spreadsheet and I wonder what the grey background means on some cells. Are those sections to be excluded?

Also, can I join a chapter that already has a person on it?

Finally, I don't know exactly what the process is for authors. I currently do all of my Ubuntu work from the terminal, so I imagine that it would be hard for me to actually write original content on my own on most of these topics given that I don't have an in-depth knowledge of the screens. I assume therefore that I'm better as an editor. Is this logic correct?

Thanks,
Eric

    To all,
Today I want to start with the preparations for the coming version
of our manual, Xenial Xerus 16.04. Yes, I believe we can do it
with the contributors we have so far, see list below [3].

I would like to ask all of you in the category
authors/editors/reviewers to go to our shared spreadsheet [1],
sheet Xenial 16.04, choose the chapters/sections you want to work
on and add your name to these chapters/sections in the column
Authors/editors. (You can download our latest manual from [4] to
see which chapters/sections are to your liking.) As soon as we
have enough chapters covered, I will send an email to this list
with more detailed instructions, especially for those who are new
to our team. If you have any questions, please send them to this list.

Kevin has already set up the new Xenial branch, see [2]. I made
the xenial.pdf successfully on my PC. I will explain later how
this works, but in the meantime you can have a look at the
following pages with detailed information: see [4].
