Hi,
I have never worked on Latex.
I have sent the notes as Reviewer/Editor.

To all,
This is my fault. Since we do not have enough contributors to have an author AND an editor for each section, my idea was to make one column authors/editors in our shared Xenial sheet. It may work for sections that need only minor fixes, but when more work is involved we should try to get an author AND an editor for that particular section.

To all,
On our website [1] you find instructions on how to become an author or an editor.
Basically, what you should do is:
1. create an account on Launchpad
2. download the Xenial branch (the focus is on Xenial right now)
3. install Texlive, depending on your computer this may take some time
4. run scripts to check if you have all the files needed to make the manual (pdf). If you have done this successfully, you find all the .tex files in /home/Projects. You can then edit the .tex files belonging to "your" chapter/section. It is not really necessary to know the Latex code, because most of the code is already in the existing tex file. You can just add or remove text from your section using a text editor like gedit. In case you want to add a code or a completely new paragraph or marginnote, you can simply copy the code from an existing paragraph in the file. This is how I did it when I first started. When finished, you can check to see if your changes are correct by making ubuntu-manual.pdf. If everything is ok, you can upload to the branch as explained on our website.
You can also find the instruction + Latex explained in our style guide [2]

Things may not go as smoothly as you would like. That is why I want to ask everyone who encounters problems during the process to please contact us using this mailing list. There are always experienced members who can help you.

Happy writing or editing,
Hannie
