389 can run on Ubuntu as well. I can package it up if you'd like.
Other tools for directory service to look at are OpenDS (http://www.opends.org/)
and Apache Directory (http://directory.apache.org/).
As I mentioned to the Ubuntu-NGO people, Canonical has done an excellent job on
getting the individual desktop nice and slick. The site administration side of
things still needs lots of work.
