CFengine (http://www.cfengine.org/) is an venerable open source tool
that can be used for this sort of thing.   Other tools to look at are
Puppet (http://reductivelabs.com/products/puppet) and Bcfg2
(http://trac.mcs.anl.gov/projects/bcfg2).
