[Design] Design weekly

Hello everyone!

It has been a really busy week so to keep us all in the loop, we are starting a weekly(ish) digest email!

Core utility development

This week we've been primarily focussed on four of our core utility apps - Clock, Calendar, Calculator and Weather - as we introduced in Mika's blogpost. Development is already racing ahead which is incredibly exciting and we had a few hangouts this week with some of you to chat about it all coming together! It was also a great just to actually meet one another ‘in person’ and discuss designs!

Core utility key journeys

Now we are working on wireframing and sketching the key journeys of each of these four apps, starting with the Calendar app which you can see here. Remember everyone these are wireframes, not visual designs. We use wireframes to communicate the layout of information on a screen and how to navigate the apps main screens. The visual design will bring a greater level of detail and sophistication so watch this space!

Design inspiration

While we are iterating these concepts, we thought this week was a good time to share more of our inspiration behind the app designs.

"The opportunity with the Clock, Weather, Calculator and Calendar apps on the Ubuntu phone is to create a consistent experience which impacts the daily lives of our users. A suite of apps that are used as part of a daily ritual; sophisticated, consistent and content focussed. Let's call them Ubuntu's rituals" - Read more about Ubuntu's rituals

As always, we will do our best to answer all your questions about the App Design Guides or the core utility designs both here and on the ubuntu-touch IRC channel, but if you have any urgent questions blocking you, David Planella (dpm) is pretty persistent at getting out attention!

Have a great weekend everyone,

Till next week,

Canonical Design Team.
