Re: Any offline map application / existing Ubuntu app that can be used ?

Issue:
- can't change DNS server via GUI, only in terminal
- can't import contacts via GUI

Thanks all,

I will try to test Marble for the offline maps thing.

And thanks Fabian, testing your code sounds good too, if you have some minutes just drop me an email.

Just wondering, is out there any Public wish-list, where we can post Usability enhancements and other things that arise when we use the system.

Network -> Sim Lock should be the first option above Wi-fi or configurable to pop each time you restart the phone. It's not straight forward to scroll down to be able to make calls

System time Issue
At this time I could not do it with the GUI but I could do it later using command line

The sliding top Menu's are really difficult to use. The gray vs. gray contrast makes it very difficult to navigate in daylight and the list is way too long to be usable as an Horizontal scroll. Don't now what is the best take on this, but maybe icons would work a lot better.

Browser sometimes open with a blank screen of death. But it's not death tapping appears the navigation bar. Don't know if it's a bug but it happens most of the time I open the browser.
Another recommendation will be to move the navigation bar on the top. I see no innovation in doing it the opposite way: it's just not natural to have it on the bottom

Great work so far, I'm not going back to Google!

Earlier with the Neo FreeRunner phone I already used Debian's
FoxtrotGPS for general "where am I" sort of navigation and Navit for
car navigation with speech support. Both are still there in Ubuntu as
well, and have seen several updates. navit however needs heavy
configuration (or a ready-made GUI .xml file) to be touch friendly and
have speech support, but it's certainly doable.

Navit has a Qt frontend nowadays so maybe it could work as is (with
the mentioned configuration), or was it that QPainter based apps don't
work straight away, only QML/Quick? FoxtrotGPS is a GTK application
and we don't have support for normal X applications (or GTK on top of
Mir) yet.

And yes, Marble, as mentioned. And monav (the routing daemon of which
is used by Marble). All need some love so that they'd work
'out-of-the-box', but a lot of the heavy lifting of creating map and
navigation applications has been done already in the projects.
