hmm that's strange. I also use my BQ phone on a daily basis and haven't
noticed that. Sure sometimes Unity8 crashes, but not as often as you put
it. It would help to attach some logs like
/home/phablet/.cache/upstart/unity8-dash.log and
home/phablet/.cache/upstart/unity8.log to help Unity8 devs debug the issue.

I am one of the developers of Podbird. I would recommend filing bugs at
https://launchpad.net/podbird so that we can track and fix it. I think the
performance of the listview can definitely be improved, but for the issue
where the play and pause buttons don't sometime work that's strange! My
guess is that when you press the play button on a new episode which hasn't
been downloaded, then Podbird needs to stream it and that depends on how
fast your network is. I have personally not observed the delay.
