I use speedtest-cli. From your PC (or if you're hardcore you can type
it all in the terminal on the device)
$ adb shell
$ wget -O speedtest-cli
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sivel/speedtest-cli/master/speedtest_cli.py
$ python3 speedtest-cli
If you plan to use it a lot, maybe edit the first line to say:-
#!/usr/bin/env python3
Then chmod +x the script and you can run it directly. I quite like
using it in the terminal on the device.
Works for me:-
phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ python3 speedtest-cli
Retrieving speedtest.net configuration...
Retrieving speedtest.net server list...
Testing from Virgin Media ...
Selecting best server based on latency...
Hosted by UK Broadband/PCCW (Ealing) [40.83 km]: 21.424 ms
