Re: Lockout

Short NB with keyboard:
AKAIK, layout will be QWERTY by default.

(as I am french I use AZERTY, and we need to hold SHIFT to use numbers in that layout, but if you do that in QWERTY, it will not trigger the numbers (...) I went in that trap for 5 minutes last day with BT keyboard ^^).

You can also use a USB OTG cable and connect a wired keyboard to type in your new password. It work's.

Is it a glitch?

I've changed the access code for my bq Aquaris E4.5 by way of the
Terminal application and it has broken my brain looking for a solution.

There was a PIN protecting it, and I changed the password with 'passwd'
in Terminal and next time I turned the screen on and off it presented a
numerical keypad but the previous PIN was not recognized.
It is unclear how to proceed. The least time consuming thing I can
imagine is to reset it, but without access it's a problem for someone
with more expertise.

Thanks for whatever tips or links you can provide.

The type of password (numerical vs. password) is stored separately to
the password itself, I'm afraid. The only supported way of changing that
is through the settings application. Do you have ssh or adb access to
the device?

You'd either need to use `passwd` again to change it to a numerical one
and go to the settings app to change it.

Alternatively, you can find/edit this file:

/var/lib/AccountsService/users/phablet

Find this bit:
[com.ubuntu.AccountsService.SecurityPrivacy]
PasswordDisplayHint=1

And change it to =0 or remove altogether.

Hope this helps,
