yes roll your own, i have to use mine over https and i want to use vpn 
but no pptp i dont think as yet..
so just straight connection ..
ill put the read me together with the prey read me this week and get it 
posted out
i followed the prey one yesterday and it worked great
ill double check the owncloud one over the weekend while i setup my 
partners new BQ and make sure that flows right and post them both out :)

own cloud server if your installing on ubuntu add the following ppa to 
get a good working secure owncloud

https://software.opensuse.org/download/package?project=isv:ownCloud:community&package=owncloud

and if you want a good working client on the desktop for ubuntu use this ppa

https://software.opensuse.org/download/package?project=isv:ownCloud:desktop&package=owncloud-client

Works for me
