Of course:

1. run on the host:

$ ssh phablet@ubap cat fifo  > userdata.tar.gz

note: the file 'userdata.tar.gz' will be created on the host;

2. run in the BQ:

phablet@ubuntu-phablet:/$ cd /
phablet@ubuntu-phablet:/$ sudo tar czf ~/fifo userdata
