Re: [Ubuntu-phone] Reporting and tracking user facing bugs in Unity Next

Hi Omer,

Currently the shell engineering related to the legacy nux/compiz version of Unity is handled inside https://launchpad.net/unity and the shall engineering related to the QML/MIR 'Unity Next' shell happens inside https://launchpad.net/manhattan so at the moment there isn't any crossover on the shell side. However this is something we need to be aware of, for example will the new QML based Unity Greeter use a new launchpad project or the existing unity-greeter project? My assumption is that we will be using new Launchpad projects for the new QML re-writes of legacy components.

Because the nux/compiz and QML/MIR versions of Unity are separate codebases, it makes sense to keep the UX bugs separated as well.

cheers,
John

So what becomes of the existing Unity bugs that we have in launchpad? From what i know the launchpad project for Unity is going to be the same i.e. launchpad.net/unity <http://launchpad.net/unity> so new bug tracking will become difficult to handle. Should we discuss something on that ?

    Hi All,

In order to track the design status of bugs across the Unity Next
project, we are looking to introduce a design bug tracking process
that is very similar to the workflow used very successfully in the
    12.04 cycle.

The details of this new process are written up in a google doc,
    see
    https://docs.google.com/a/canonical.com/document/d/1PcNRQZFbfmmQEvxu4SZHO3GZ9Zaetg9p2DOmRwOUbS0/edit#

To summarize, if a bug is related to user facing behaviour or
appearance it should be marked as 'also affects' the "ubuntu-ux"
Launchpad project. In design we will then review these incoming
bugs and then assign designers and specify the desired solution
    accordingly.

Please ping myself or any other members of the design team on IRC
    freenode #ubuntu-design with any questions.

    thanks,
    John
